Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the Earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength.(Isaiah 40:28-29)
I want to know God deeper, to experience the truth about Him. I cried out for Him to reveal Himself to me in a greater way, and now He’s bringing me on a tour through His heart. So let’s discover the awesome truth about our Father!
God is omnipotent. He has infinite power to do whatever He wants. He commands, and the universe comes into existence (Genesis 1:1); He splits entire seas apart (Exodus 14:21); He raises the dead back to life (1 Kings 17:22); He gives people visions of the future (Isaiah 46:10). Basically, God is insanely powerful, we know that. But God is also incredibly good and compassionate! He acts on behalf of the powerless and cares for the hurting, stepping in for the weak (Psalm 146:7-9). Because God is so full of love and mercy, He makes His unlimited strength available to those who need it! When we look to Him in humility and neediness, He’s comes to us with strength and power. Another word for all of this is grace.
Through Jesus, God has adopted us into His own family, calling us His actual sons and daughters (1 John 3:1)! He’s given us His Spirit as a seal of authenticity, proving that we’re truly His; a child has their parent’s genes, we have our Father’s “genes”, His Spirit coursing through us, making us more like Him (Romans 8:15)! As His children, we have access to our Father’s unlimited resources, especially His limitless strength! When Peter is encouraging the suffering believers in Asia Minor, he reminds them that they’ve been born again into a new family with an eternal inheritance in Heaven, and it was their Father who would keep them going until they received it (1 Peter 1:3-9). When Paul is praying for the Ephesian church, he asks that God would supply them with strength from His glorious abundance by the Spirit (Ephesians 3:16). Our Abba Father delights in sharing His strength with us when we run to Him and ask for it. He loves our weakness, because it allows Him to show us how strong He truly is!
When Isaiah is writing to the people of Israel, he tells them that their arrogance and pride has gotten way too crazy and they need to chill out. Otherwise, God was going to come and humble them hard, and He’ll be the only One standing tall on that day (Isaiah 2:5-22). The point is simple: He really doesn’t like pride! He hates when we, frail and weak human beings, act like we’re Him! At the end of the day, only He is worthy of glory and praise because only He is truly perfect in every way! Rather than placing our trust in ourselves or trusting in others (presidents, celebrities, etc…), our Father wants us to humble ourselves and realize our need for Him and His strength (1 Peter 5:5-7).
- Our Dad is the Almighty Creator of everything, and He has no limit to His power! He makes that power available to us as an inheritance, a right and a privilege enjoyed by His dearly loved sons and daughters! However, He only gives His power to those who need it, the poor in spirit who look to Him and confess their need for help. Our Abba’s heart is to give His unfathomable strength to us when we cry out to Him in need and lowliness. Do you need God’s strength to overcome a battle, to endure a trial, to do what He’s called you to do? Cry out to Him, and He’ll give you more power than you could’ve asked for!
And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who lives in you.(Romans 8:11)
